Our Dogs' Extensive Training

At Paws on Mold, we take the training of our detection dogs very seriously to ensure they are highly skilled in locating mold, even in the most challenging environments. Our training process is both comprehensive and precise, utilizing a combination of live mold and synthetic mold samples.

To start, each of our dogs undergoes rigorous training with a synthetic mold developed by ScentLogix. ScentLogix is the world's leading authority in the science and manufacturing of non-hazardous reference-grade scent stimulates for the biological and electronic detection industry. The Scentlogix mold aid scope of mold detection exceeds the 26 mold species certification standard used in Denmark and also includes black mold.  This approach ensures that they can detect mold in real-world scenarios, where different strains may emit different odors. Additionally, we use live mold during training, allowing our dog to become familiar with the actual odors emitted by various mold types, ensuring they can identify a broad range of mold strains. This dual training method not only sharpens their ability to detect mold at any stage of growth but also prepares them to work in diverse environments, from homes and businesses to larger commercial properties. With their keen noses and specialized training, our dogs can pinpoint mold in hidden and hard-to-reach areas, providing accurate and non-invasive assessments.

The success of Paws on Mold goes beyond just our training methods—it’s also about the expertise of our trainer and co-owner, Sean Galavan. With years of experience in detection, Sean has trained bomb and narcotic dogs and has worked with the TSA on various detection operations. A combat veteran, Sean has been working with Zuko since he was a puppy, shaping him into an exceptionally accurate and reliable detection dog. Through daily training sessions, Sean ensures that Zuko not only maintains his accuracy but also continues to refine his ability to detect a wide variety of mold strains. Their strong partnership and Sean’s extensive experience are key to Zuko’s success as a top-tier mold detection dog.
